While this isn't cheap for a refugium light, my chaeto has never looked healthier.
I used to use two compact fluorescents flood lamps and when I built my new sump I opted for a small LED grow light I found online.
The fluorescents did a fairly good job, but weren't able to keep the phosphate and nitrate levels down far enough. With the old LED grow light the chaeto pretty much stayed clumped up at the bottom of the refugium and it was not able to help export any nutrients.
My display tank was starting to see some algae blooms and I decided to take the plunge on this light based on some online reviews. Let's just say within 12 hours, the chaeto was already reaching up through the water for the light and within a week, I have a sizeable amount of growth forming a nice blanket at and below the surface. I haven't checked my phosphate and nitrates since installing the light, but I suspect that the minimal amounts I was seeing should be down.
The only thing to keep in mind is that you need a bit of vertical room to mount this light and it does have a fan that runs when on. It is fairly quiet so no real worries there unless you are leaving the light in the open.
