better flow than the CPR102 Dec 9, 2014
So, I bought the CPR102 and thought that would be perfect for my 125G mixed reef tank. It was quiet and easy to start with the TOM Aqualifter; however, I don't think it had the advertised 1200GPH flow. My Jebao 9000 DC return pump had to be set at the lowest setting - 1 out of 6. Mind you, it's max return flow is 2300GPH (I guess I went a little overboard) but you can start it at 713GPH. The CPR102 barely kept enough water in the sump for the return pump. With the ES 1200, I now have my pump set at 2 out of 6 and am able to keep twice as much water in the sump. The only draw back is that it is very loud. I now have the sound of a rushing waterfall in my basement. I'm sure I can configure a DIY solution to the noise (maybe a french drain). My wave maker does not affect the performance of this which was not the case with the CPR102. I can also set the water level lower with the ES-1200 than the CPR102.
