The CR44 is an extension of the SAPPHIRE series. One of the Trigger family members was recently diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. In an effort to help support this strong young girl, we plan to donate a portion of our profit to the Crohn’s foundation. This model only comes in one size with a slight variation of color compared to the SAPPHIRE series. There are also a few additional features that were added to help make this one special. Some of the features of the CR44 are:
Interchangeable plates (Patent Pending)
Configurable input fitting plate (Patent Pending)
Two additional adjustable input fittings (one 1″ and one 1.5″) that can be placed in the skimmer section or return section
Fully enclosed Polycarbonate lid to prevent splashing and reduce noise
Adjustable water level
Self adjusting foam block platform (Patent Pending)
Cable/Hose organizers
Dual acrylic platforms
Laser engraved water level indicator
Four position countersunk probe holder
Quick connect 1/4″ hose input fittings for dosing and ATO inputs
Protein skimmer section
Refugium section
Sapphire blue and Aquamarine blue coloring, solid white bottom to block light and prevent unwanted algae growth in other sections

The CR44 has 4 main sections. Water enters the sump into a dedicated section where the water will then flow over into Section 1. Section 1 is the configurable interchangeable plate area allowing for filter sock and/or foam block mechanical filtration. This area is covered with a solid polycarbonate lid to prevent water splashing and reduce noise. There is a finger notch in front of the lid to assist with removing it. Water then flows out the bottom of Section 1 into Section 2.
Section 2 is typically where the protein skimmer is located. Water then flows through the ‘Trigger Symbol’ cutout into Section 3.
Section 3 is the refugium section. The water then flows over the adjustable water level baffle through 2 perforated platforms and under the last baffle into Section 3. The top perforated platform comes with a foam block filter and the bottom one is open to use for several different filtration methods (bag of carbon, bio balls, bio media, rubble rock, etc.).
Section 4 is the return section where the return pump will sit, pumping water back to the display tank.

INTERCHANGEABLE PLATES
The CR44 comes with the following accessories for Section 1:
Filter Sock Plate
4″ Filter Socks (100 micron rating) – qty 3
Foam Block Distribution Plate
Filter Foam Block
The Filter Sock Plate can be installed with filter socks as shown. The CR44 has three 4″ socks.
The Foam Block Distribution Plate is perforated with holes and can be used when filter socks are not desired or in the case when filter socks need to be changed or cleaned but replacement socks are not readily available and you want to maintain some level of mechanical filtration. In this case, simply remove the filter socks and install the Foam Block Distribution Plate with the foam block.
The Foam Block Distribution Plate may also be used on top of the Filter Sock Plate with filter socks. This configuration helps to distribute the water more evenly across all socks so that the filter socks will last longer before clogging and will clog at the same time. This also helps to silence the water noise by slowing down and spreading the water more evenly across the surface area of all of the socks. In this configuration, the foam block filter can be placed on top to enhance even further the silencing and distribution of water and also allow even longer times before the socks become clogged by providing a pre-filter before the socks.

CONFIGURABLE INPUT PLATE
The CR44 comes with a plate that has two 1.5″ inputs with extension pipes for the water draining down from the tank into the sump. If this configuration does not match your setup, a blank plate is also provided where you can drill holes to match the configuration of the drain lines coming down from your tank. If the drain lines are smaller than 1.5″, reducers (not included) can be used from 1.5″ to smaller plumbing as needed.

ADDITIONAL INPUT PLATES
The CR44 comes with two additional input fittings. One of the input fittings is 1″ and the other is 1.5″. These are installed on a bracket that can be placed in the skimmer or return area. Possible install areas are shown by the arrows in the picture. Two locations are available in the skimmer area to allow spacing for fitting different protein skimmers. This additional inputs are typically used for the siphon style overflow design for the emergency drain. The emergency drain is typically dry and will only have water flow through it when the other two main drains have issues. Therefore, we recommend to not have an extension pipe so the noise made when water flows through this input can be heard. Another common use for the additional input is in the return area for the return pump plumbing.

FULLY ENCLOSED POLYCARBONATE LID
A polycarbonate lid is provided to go over the plate section. This area can generate splashing and noise. We made this piece one solid piece rather than having a hole in it for removing it. This helps in further reduction of the noise that can be generated from the water entering the sock area. A finger notch groove is cut towards the front of the lid to remove it. Polycarbonate material is used so it will not warp over time from humidity.

THREE SLOT PROBE HOLDER
The CR44 come with a probe holder that can hold up to four probes. Three of the holes are for 0.5″ diameter probes and the last is for a 0.7″ diameter probe.  The holes are countersunk, which means the probe will not fall through. 8 o-rings are provided to help secure the probes and ensure they won’t get damaged when inserting.

CABLE/HOSE ORGANIZER
To help keep cables and hoses better organized, there are two cable/hose organizers. One is located right above the probe holder. The other is located in the return section to help secure the return pump cable.

ADJUSTABLE WATER LEVEL WITH SELF ADJUSTING FOAM BLOCK
Water level in the sump is adjustable from 7” to 9.5” to accommodate for the water height requirements for different protein skimmers. Simply move the baffle to the desired height location and tighten the two bolts to hold in place.
As the water level is adjusted by sliding the wall up and down, the foam block filter and the top perforated platform also move up and down automatically. This is important to maintain the correct location of the foam block sponge filter with respect to the sump water height and also to maximize the media capacity for the bottom platform.

LASER ENGRAVED WATER LEVEL INDICATOR
Subtle water level height indicator is laser engraved on the inside wall to help when setting the adjustable water level to to the desired water height based on protein skimmer requirements.

QUICK DISCONNECT HOSE HOLDER
Four quick connect inputs are located in the top brace to connect 1/4″ tubing from dosing or ATO. The quick connect input fittings all have extension pipes and also include a support bracket mounted on the back wall where the extension pipe mount into. This puts the hose outputs at the appropriate height to view the drops entering the system, ensuring hoses are not clogged and minimizing water splashing/noise.
