The mud will naturally need replace some of its own nutrients in the normal cycling and growth of algae. However, it is recommend that every 4-6 months you replace about 20-30% of the mud for a more vibrant and robust bed of fresh minerals and trace elements.
When you place mud in your tank, you should expect the water to cloud up for a period of time. If some of the mud settles on your corals, do not worry, this happens in the ocean all the time and all you have to do is create some wave action on front of the corals to blow it off, or use a turkey baster. The best way to add the mud is to turn off your return pump when adding, and once the mud has settled, turn the pump back on.
