The ARF-1 removes the need for filter socks. Water is fed into the internal chamber via the aquarium systems drain, and through the filter roll. When the water level rises in the chamber due to filter clogging the water level switch triggers the motor to wind on the filter roll to a new fresh piece. The water level will then drop repeating the process

I had to share this Mar 7, 2020
So I bought this in 9/2019. It has been awesome. I get a pesky snail in it every now and then, but it has been rock solid. But this week, it seems the motor for the roller stopped working. It comes on, but doesn’t move. I had heard that Bubble Magus (aka Sea Side Aquatics) had horrible customer support. I contacted them via email and got a response in under an hour. After a couple of emails, they are sending a new motor to me. Painless and quick. I wanted to share my experience.

4 STARS is not due to quality!
I have been using for a while now and I am extremely pleased. It is being used with a Trigger Ruby 30. To fit in the sock section of this sump I had to install on the opposite side of the sock holders. The small size roller would have allowed me to install on the left most side adjacent to the sock holders and personally would have been a better place to install. Versus the standard filter sock setup on the Ruby 30 this filter has made my tank nearly silent! I would absolutely recommend this product over the higher priced competitor models. I have also ordered the small version to give my son for his tank to use with a Trigger Emerald 26.
The lack of full 5 stars is due to the tank mount brackets. The included brackets are not quite large enough fit over the top trim of the Ruby 30 and need to be trimmed down a little to fit properly. Trimming was easy enough to do with an oscillating tool and a Dremel, or similar, would likely be even easier use. The brackets appear to be a PVC type material.

Perfect so far in my 75 gallon Jun 18, 2021
So far I have to give this filter roller a 5 star. It has been working really good in my tank for the past 3 weeks and it doesn't look like I will have to replace the roller until a few more weeks. I contacted Bubble Magus about some installation questions and they reply my emails in 1 day. Also the customer service from premium Aquatics was awesome I even got a call back. Love this thing so much easier then cleaning or changing out socks every few days
