The ARF-L removes the need for filter socks. Water is fed into the internal chamber via the aquarium systems drain, and through the filter roll. When the water level rises in the chamber due to filter clogging the water level switch triggers the motor to wind on the filter roll to a new fresh piece. The water level will then drop repeating the process

So Far appears to be a good unit. Jul 21, 2021
Have had running for over a month. Still on original roll and looks like it will do over 2 months on a roll. Needs room in the sump. If you have a crowed sump already, you may have problems with fitting this unit (ARF-L) in. Inlet for water is a flexible metric pipe but I had some parts left over from previous project that I managed to connect anyways using a 1" inline connector jammed into the flexible pipe. I have a 2 pipe overflow in my aquarium of which I was not using the smaller one. The smaller one (1" pvc) was perfect for feeding water to the filter and the excess water flows (which I have seen you should have some overflow for a reef tank with corals as they found roll filter did to good of a job) into the original larger pipe (I also have a valve on the inlet to the roll filter for maintence purposes). The water in my aquarium seems to be much cleaner for a longer period of time. If your not good on maintenance (which I am not), Roll Filter seems a good option. I chose the ARF-L as I have a 2400 gpm overflow system and this seemed to be the appropriate size for my system (also why I have excess overflow)
