Installed in the heating-air system a UV treats the air circulating throughout the home. UV’s purify with UV-C, germicidal rays, which penetrate an organism’s cell walls; germs and viruses cannot build up immunity to this physical attack. UV disinfection has been used in hospitals and health care facilities for decades to control the spread of diseases by both purifying the air and sanitizing medical tools. In US government buildings the use of UV is now required in all heating and cooling systems.

Our Unit is intended for use in Sterilization of Air in the Heating/Air Systems.

Ozone v’s Non-Ozone

QUESTION: WHAT IS OZONE?

ANSWER: Ozone is a molecule that consists of three oxygen atoms (O3), with a delta negative and a delta positive electric charge. The ozone molecule is very unstable and has a short half-life. Therefore, it will decay after some time into its original form: oxygen (O2, according reaction presented below).

2O3 ⇋ 3O2

In essence ozone is nothing more than oxygen (O2), with an extra oxygen atom, formed by an electric high charge an extra oxygen atom. In nature ozone is produced by some chemical reactions. The most familiar example is of course the ozone layer, where ozone is produced from the sun’s ultra-violet (UV) rays. But ozone is also produced at thunderstorms and waterfalls. The extreme high voltages attended with thunderstorms produce ozone from oxygen. The special “fresh, clean, spring rain” smell is a result from nature-produced ozone. Ozone derives from the Greek word ozein, which means to smell.

Ozone is only produced under extreme circumstances. This can also be created by ozone generators. Ozone generators produce ozone with extreme high voltages or with UV-light.

We do not recommend running Ozone producing lamps continuously or in Businesses that have closed spaces and patrons such as restaurants, offices and or Growhouses etc.

Non-Ozone UV Lamps

The Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UV-C) wavelength is an invaluable tool for an HVACR system. By leveraging germicidal energy to keep refrigeration coils free of microbial growth, facility managers also enjoy the benefit of reducing the spread of airborne infectious agents.

However, some facility managers may hesitate to leverage these benefits for their application due to a concern about ozone. While the Ultraviolet spectrum contains four separate wavelengths—UV-A, B, C and Vacuum UV—each operates at different energy levels and only one is capable of producing ozone (Vacuum UV).

As you’ll note in the graphic, Vacuum UV operates in the 100-200nm range, where it is capable of producing ozone. UV-C, conversely, reaches its optimal germicidal strength near 253.7nm. Because ozone may only be produced below 200nm, at 253.7nm (rounded to 254nm), the germicidal wavelength does not generate ozone.

In addition to the stronger 254nm wavelength that does not produce ozone, UV-C lamps offer another layer of ozone protection.

Most germicidal lamps, including those from UV Resources, are produced with doped quartz glass, which blocks the transmission of the 185nm ozone-producing wavelength. The doped quartz glass allows the 253.7nm radiation to pass through, but it blocks the 185nm wavelength from escaping. Therefore, germicidal lamps with doped glass CANNOT produce ozone.

Running the Unit

Non-Ozone
Can be run continuously, at all times HVAC is operational.

Ozone
We suggest to only run the unit continuously if in a well ventilated room larger than 1000 sq feet or utilize the following chart for usage:

It is still important to ensure  you are cleaning surfaces and that they are free and clear of dust even though the Air Sterilizer will eliminate contagions.

Permanent Disinfection of the air by up to 90%
No Chemical disinfection necessary
Simple no frills installation
Fulfillment and piece of mind for hygiene standards

Must be installed inside the HVAC duct, recommended by a HVAC specialist and not viewable by naked eyes.

You will be able to see light emission at night not in daylight.
