(11/30/2009) - I have used these pumps in my DIY CO2 reactor (upflow design). The pump is mounted externally and works great - no leaks / quiet. The only problem I've seen is if fine particulate matter from the reactor is allowed to circulate for long periods of time or repeatedly. The abrassive nature of the particulates wears the inside lining of the pump leading to some slop in the spinning magnet and then vibration sound. In extreme cases, I've seen the casing worn completely through resulting in a short. If I keep the flow rate through the reactor under control, the pump lasts a long time and works fine.
(03/26/2007) - You can't beat these pumps for the money.
(02/12/2007) - These are great pumps. Indestructable in my opinion. I have 3 of them. One is used externally on my calcium reactor and has never leaked or failed. One of them had a problem starting after 3 years of CONSTANT use and MANY times running dry. Put a new impeller assy in it and it worked like new!
(08/03/2006) - These pumps are quiet but I purchased 2 and they both leak. Poor design for external use.
(02/06/2006) - Don't use externally mine leaks bad. Submerged its fine if not a little large for 250GPH
(01/04/2010) - If you are thinking of buying this pump, get it because you want a ton of flow for a cheap price. don't expect it to be quiet. Just look at the design...it is like the largest powerhead ever built! If you want a quiet pump, buy a Reeflo...and stop complaining about this one being noisy...you get what you pay for! LOL
(08/22/2008) - Have had mag drive pumps last 10+ years. They are never the quietest, but then again I've never tried to put 2400 gph through a SCWD! Was this a joke?
(08/24/2007) - Just bought this 2400 in hopes to use it for a closed loop in my 135 Gallon Reef.
Using 1" PVC I plummed the closed loop through a SCWD and ended up nearly NO head pressure on top of being extremely loud.
Currently I run (2) BlueLine pumps for my skimmer and return and I never hear them at all. Once I plugged this pump in I thought the house was gonna fall in. Rattles like mad and so far doesn't perform near as well as I expected.
