Margarites pupillius: A small coralline encrusted snail from Baja, Mexico, which has a great appetite for algae. This smaller snail has a rounded shell, with size similar to an Astrea. They stay small, so a great micro-tank addition or use larger numbers for bigger tanks. They eat diatom and film type algaes and really help on the glass. Recommend 1 per 2 gallons, up to 1 to 1 for major algae problems.

(05/25/2008) - FOR TEMPERATE AQUARIUMS ONLY! These snails come from cooler water and they WILL die in warmer tropical aquariums.
(05/15/2006) - Margarita snails are a temperate water species and will eventually die in a tropical (80degreesF) aquarium. Keep this in mind.
(10/15/2005) - These are the best snails I have. I put them in my tank and they went right to work. They are very active.....yah the snails are active!! I have yet had to rescue one.
(10/27/2004) - If you would like your live rock to look as though it had just been cleaned with a fine toothbrush, this is the snail for you. Everything they "touch" glows, especially coralline algaes. THey are especially thorough in consuming/removing diatoms.
(06/01/2004) - These are some hungry snails! Mine seem to be eating everything they come across, except for larger macro algaes. They seem to be a bit dumber than other snails -- getting stuck in corners, upside down, etc... Not as bad as astreas in that regard though.
(06/01/2004) - These are some of the coolest snails I have. They're pretty fast and cruise the glass quite a bit. They look like they eat green algae, some slime, and maybe diatoms just judging from the feeding tracks they leav behind. I'll be getting more of these guys.
(06/01/2004) - who ever said big things come in small packages was right!
(06/01/2004) - These are my favorite snails. They are actually much prettier than they appear in the picture. Mine do a great job of cleaning the liverock.
(06/01/2004) - Some of the best snails in my tank. They graze continuously on the glass and rock. This is another snail I may get more of.
