Cerith sp: This snail is from the Sea of Cortez, Mexico. It not only grazes algae, but also loves detritus. The only snail we have which cleans aquarium glass below the sand. This cone shaped snail will clean those hard to get places, where no other snail will reach. Average length of 1.25". They eat diatom, red slime, *even* hair algae. Recommend 1 per 2 gallons up to 1 to 1 for major cleanup, or for hermitless tank.

(02/02/2006) - Always on duty! These guys will clean anything! They dig into the substrate to get it squeaky clean and then move on to the rock. They will do windows too :) although it seems to be their last choice. I'd say they are an important part of any team :)
(10/15/2005) - Slow and sleepy but hungry. Mine tend to stay off the plexi and mostly concentrate on and around the rocks.
(06/01/2004) - Good at keeping the substrate clean, but would NOT eat red slime in my tank.
(06/01/2004) - I don't know about the rest of you, but I have witnessed these guys eating long strands of hair algae. I would agree that it is most likely not their food of choice, but never the less, they eat it. Great all around snail!
(06/01/2004) - While this is an active snail that heartily ate the algae off the sides of my glass, I purchased 1 snail per gallon hoping to control my hair algae outbreak. While the Ceriths did eat some hair algae, it didn't seem to be their food of choice. Thus my tank continued to be overrun with hair-algae. Don't buy this snail thinking it will solve your hair algae problems. Instead go with red-legged baja crabs.
(06/01/2004) - Pretty much what everyone else has said -- slow, hungry, eats everything!
(06/01/2004) - Great all around algae eating snail. And Jason is right, they do dig down under the substrate on the glass! No other snail I've had does that! Very cool. And they're always busy. So even though they're slow, they're constantly working.
(06/01/2004) - Just received my order on 5/25/01. This guys went right to work on algae on glass and live rock. Definite plus
(06/01/2004) - What can i say?.. This thing is great, though it does have a small mouth it has a big appitite!
I highly recommend it!
Good for begginers
(06/01/2004) - These guys are exactly like the nassarius snails in behavior only they are three times as big. They turn the gravel, eat detritus clean the glass of film algae and are very hardy.
